2018 Summer Exchange Program in Cancer Health Disparities

The University of Guam/University of Hawaii Cancer Center Partnership announces its 2018 Summer Exchange Program open to University of Guam (UOG) and University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC) faculty, doctoral students, and post-docs interested in working with faculty member/s at the partnering institution to address cancer health disparities in Pacific Islanders. In collaboration with UOG or UHCC faculty member/s, applicants may propose to: gather and analyze data to inform cancer prevention and control planning, public health policy/ies, or cancer research; develop a cancer research proposal for competitive funding; conduct cancer outreach, training and/or research activities; and/or prepare a manuscript for peer review. The U54 Summer Exchange opportunity is open to all disciplines, from basic science to public health and social sciences.

Eligibility criteria:  UOG and UH Cancer Center faculty members, including early career investigators, doctoral students, and post-docs interested in cancer health disparities research are eligible to apply.

Program Compensation:  Awardees will receive reimbursement for roundtrip airfare between Guam and Hawaii, taxi fare to/from airports in Guam and Hawaii, and up to $3,600 for housing in Guam or Hawaii. Any travel costs beyond those specified here are the responsibility of the Summer Exchange awardee.

Application Requirements:  Interested applicants must submit a curriculum vitae (CV); a letter of interest describing the goals of your fellowship, learning objectives, and anticipated outcomes; and a statement of commitment from the researcher/s at UHCC or UOG with whom you propose to collaborate.  Submit all three documents to U54@cc.hawaii.edu by January 31, 2018 (Hawaii Time)/ February 1, 2018 (Guam Time).  

Expectations:  Within 30 days of completing the exchange, awardees must submit a written report summarizing their overall experience and describing the extent to which their goals, learning objectives, and outcomes were achieved.
